1335683 Boxes; packaging cigarettes BRITISH & FOREIGN TOBACCO CO Ltd 1 Oct 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 46937/70 Headings B8P and B8C A container comprises an inner component having two parts hinged together and an outer component also having two parts, hinged together, the inner component having at least one recess to accommodate the contents and the hinged parts being movable about their hinges to a position wherein the two inner sections are juxtaposed. The outer component, Fig. 6, may be formed of a vacuum or pressure formed thermoplastic material, or of carton or paperlike material; the inner component, Fig. 4, may be similarly formed the thermoplastic material being P.V.C. The inner component has two slits in the blank from which it is formed allowing retaining strips 12 to be formed when the recesses 10 are moulded. To fill and assemble the containers, see Fig. 8, the inner component is positioned on a conveyer 25 with the underside of the recesses 10 uppermost, a magnetized sliver 26 is positioned in end walls 8, a metallic guide 27 holds the component in position with recesses folded towards each other, the articles 28 (which may be cigarettes) are inserted and the outer component is fitted over the inner component at 29. The hinge lines of the two components are welded together by high frequency welding and their sides may also be so welded together. The sides of the outer component may be of less height than those of the inner component and if the latter has a metallized surface a distinctive band is formed around the container. The inner and outer components may be of different materials and finishes and may be wrapped in "Cellophane" (Registered Trade Mark). The retaining strips 12 may alternatively be formed adjacent the outer edge of the inner component instead of near to the hinge.
