Abstract

1335506 Luminescent screens PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 May 1972 [8 May 1971] 21026/72 Heading H1D [Also in Division G2] In a lighthouse for the manufacture of a colour television screen by exposure of a photoresist through a shadow mask, the lens system 8 includes a refractive surface having a stepped profile which divides the lens into annular zones, the transition zones 13-15 between steps being tangential to the light paths. In the arrangement shown the lens system comprises a symmetrical lens 1 which produces a virtual displacement of the light source along the axis which increase with the angle of the rays to the axis, and a stepped lens 12 which produces a virtual displacement of the source normal to the axis in the plane of the drawing which increases with the angle. A motor 18 is provided for moving the lens 12 so that its centre describes a circle of 1À5 mm. radius in order to reduce the effect of residual scattering at the transition regions 13-15. If desired the lens 1 may be made asymmetrical so that it produces part of the required displacement of the light source normal to the axis.
