Abstract
1335653 Colour television tubes PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 May 1972 [14 May 1971] 22063/72 Heading H1D An exposure device for manufacturing a display screen of a colour TV tube comprises a light source 6 for illuminating a photosensitive layer 3 on the tube faceplate 2 through a pattern of holes 4 in a shadow mask 5, and rotatable means 11 for producing a virtual displacement, seen from the mask, of the source parallel to a target plane at the faceplate centre. A point light source comprises a gas discharge tube 7 and a quartz cone 8. A lens 10 produces a virtual source coincident with the deflection point of the electron beam. The means 11 comprises a wedge shaped lens with slight curvature of surface 14 and its rotation produces an effective annular source. Dots produced on the faceplate are smaller than the holes in the mask and hence smaller than the impact area of the electron beams. This increases the area between the dots which may be of black light absorbing material. The lens 11 may be rotationally symmetrical about its axis or replaced by a plane sheet of glass rotated about an axis at an angle to its surface.
