Abstract

1,245,325. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 1 Dec., 1969 [4 Dec., 1968], No. 58511/69. Heading H1D. In manufacture of a colour television luminescent screen of the multi-dot type by exposure of a photo-resist through a shadow mask, a rotationally-symmetrical divergent lens 11 is disposed between the light source C1, Fig. 2, and the mask to increase the relative intensity of the light transmitted to the edges of the mask. The light intensity I# at the angle # between the axis and a line joining C1 to the edge of the screen should satisfy the condition I # < (cos #/cosα) I α , when I α is the intensity at the angle α given by sin α = (1 + v/f)<SP>-1</SP> sin #, where v is the distance from C1 to the lens, f is the focal length of the lens, and f < 3v. The diameter of the light source may be larger than usual and may be at least equal to 0À7LB/Q, where B is the diameter of an aperture in the centre of the mask, L is the distance ClC2 and Q is the distance between the central part of the mask and C2. The radii of curvature of the surfaces of the lens 11 should satisfy the condition R1 = v/(1 + n) and R2 = (1 + 1/n)R1 + t, where n is the refractive index and t the thickness of the central part of the lens. The apparatus shown includes a correction lens 12 which makes the directions of the light rays conform to the directions of the deflected electron beam in the finished tube, and one side of the lens has a filter layer 12a whose permeability increases from its centre towards its edge. The light source comprises a cone 10 illuminated by an electric discharge lamp, and the tip of the cone may have a diameter of 6 mm.
