Abstract

1335344 Gas filter SERCK INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Nov 1970 [7 Jan 1970] 867/70 Heading BIT A gas filter comprises an array of filter bags 9 extending from tube plate 7 to lower spider 11 which is urged downwards by spring 13 bearing on stop 12 on shaft 8 to maintain the bags under tension, dust being periodically shaken from the outsides of the bags by rotating a cam 14, which lifts shaft 8 to relax the bag tension then releases it so that the bags are suddenly tensioned again. Cam 14 is rotated by a worm and pinion drive (Fig. 2, not shown) which may be driven by hand or motor. The cam also causes a limited twisting of the shaft, which is reversed when cam followers 16 pass over the vertical parts of the cam. As shown the filter operates under suction applied by fan 4, and cylindrical sleeve 6, casing 1 and tangential inlet 2 ensure a degree of cyclone separation of dust before the gas reaches bags 9. Fan 4 is a separate unit and may be rotated so that its outlet points in any direction. The filter could operate under pressure, with casing I omitted and dirty gas flowing directly into the lower end of sleeve 6, which could for example form a silo outlet unit.
