Abstract

1334743 Multi-car control systems OTIS ELEVATOR CO 19 April 1971 [21 April 1970] 26372/71 Heading B8L Four double compartment lift cars a-d serve ten landings, of which the lowest two are lobbies for the upper and lower compartments. Cars can park away from the lobbies where usually two cars are parked. Service from the lobbies is as follows:- Cars a, c serve landings 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10 with the upper compartment, and 5, 7 and 9 with the lower. Cars b, d, serve landings 4, 6, 8, 10 with the upper compartment, and 3, 5, 7 and 9 with the lower compartment. Car calls in the respective compartments for landings not served, are not registered. A hall call from landing 4 or higher can be answered by any car, the act of answering the hall call rendering all car calls in the compartment which answers the call, registerable for the rest of the upward journey. All car calls may be registered for downward journeys, although the lower compartment does not serve the second lobby. The third landing has four call buttons for upward calls to even or odd landings, and downward calls to the first or second lobby respectively. Upward even or odd landing calls are answered by the upper compartment of either car a or c, or the lower compartment of either car b or d respectively, the downward calls being answered by the lower compartment of either b or d, or the upper compartment of either a or c respectively. Preferably the lower compartment answers "up" hall calls from the fourth landing and higher when the car is moving up, and the upper compartment answers "down" calls when the car is moving down. Manual switches enable the restricted service in the upper and/or the lower compartment of each car to be overruled, the removal of the service restriction in both compartments should either answer a hall call above the third landing, and the opening of both compartment doors in a car when either one answer a car or hall call except when the other compartment is at the third landing. Response of a lift car at rest to a hall call adjacent a compartment.-When the "up" or "down" hall call is registered, the doors of whichever compartment is opposite the landing do not open, until the required direction of subsequent motion is set. A further call for the opposite direction of motion from the landing adjacent the other compartment will not be responded to by the car, unless no car call is registered within a given time, for the first hall call. In the absence of such a car call, the required direction of subsequent motion is set for the second call, before the car responds to it. Car zoninq system.-Normally one of cars b, d, and one of cars a, c are parked at the lobbies, the other two being parked away from the lobbies if not in service. Whenever there are three cars at the lobbies, one is despatched. One of the two parked cars at the lobbies is selected as "preferred", and will answer calls if possible. Should the doors of the "preferred" car open, and no car call be registered, indicating that the car cannot provide the desired service, then, after a time delay, the other car is selected as "preferred", and the process repeats itself until a car call is made. Selectors.-An advancer goes "ahead" of the nominal lift position and scans for hall calls. Separate scans are made for the upper and lower compartments in each car. Control system.-The system utilizes relays, some of the "set-reset" type with three-terminal coils, some of the "change position", and "hold" type having two separate coils, and silicon controlled rectifiers. The operation is disclosed in relation to Figs. 1-20 (not shown).
