1334678 Electrolysis of brine FRIEDRICH UHDE GmbH 26 Oct 1970 [24 Oct 1969] 50672/70 Addition to 1259822 Heading C7B In the electrolysis of alkali metal chloride solution using a mercury cathode as claimed in the parent Specification 1259822, chlorine formed by the electrolysis is withdrawn from the cell via an aperture 5 in the cell wall, and a downwardly extending discharge pipe 6. The chlorine/brine foam withdrawn in practice may be passed via collecting pipe 7 to a separation vessel (not shown). As shown brine is supplied to the cell via feed pipe 1 and hollow anode stems 2.
