Abstract

1334194 Adjusting carburetters SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES 25 Jan 1972 [2 March 1971] 3403/72 Heading F1B Carburetter adjustment apparatus comprises means 24 receiving the carburetter body and causing to pass into its intake pipe a desired air flow, means 26 adapted to introduce into the float chamber through an orifice 27 other than the usual intake orifice 7 regulated by the needle valve 8 an adjustable liquid or fuel flow and means 28 to measure continuously the free cross-section of the intake orifice. Valve 35 is opened to permit rapid filling of float chamber 6 from a constant pressure fuel source 29. Valve 35 is closed and pump 22 activated to give a desired air flow in the intake pipe 3, e. g. idling flow, the flow being adjusted by assembly 24 (not described) and valve 4. Screw 33 is adjusted to give the desired flow indicated by a meter 31. Screw 19 is then adjusted so that the pressure measured by a manometer 38 downstream of a calibrated orifice (not shown) becomes stable (i.e. the free cross-section of orifice 7 is constant and the level in chamber 6 is constant. Consequently the flow of fuel entering chamber 6 is the same as that delivered through orifice 12 and the inaccuracies caused by fluctuations of the position of needle valve 8 in prior art apparatus are eleminated.
