Abstract

1333964 Screw-threading and beading caps by rolling ALLUMINIO MAUCERI BORGHETTO SpA 11 Nov 1971 [11 Nov 1970] 52380/71 Headings B3A and B3E A head for a beading and/or screw-threading machine for metal stoppering caps on containers having a pouring mouth comprises a rotary body 1 adapted to rotate a body 5 coaxial therewith which is caused to slide axially with respect to the rotary body against the bias of a spring through the action exerted by applying the cap to the container mouth, the coaxial body 5 carrying beading and/or screw-threading members formed by respective levers 21, 23 fulcrummed on the coaxial body, camming means rotatable with said rotary body and axially slidable thereon against the bias of resilient means 50 which thrust them into engagement with the levers, said camming means comprising as many cam sectors 45 as there are levers to be controlled and every one of the cam sectors being thrust into engagement with the respective one of said levers by resilient means 50 which are individually adjustable. A motor (not shown) controls rotation of sheave 2 and simultaneous depression of the machine head towards the mouth of a stoppered container. Rotation of sheave 2 causes rotation of rotary body 1, of rotary body 5, and annular body 8 with its assembly of levers 21, 23 and respective rollers 28, 35. The cap, inserted through flared bore 13, engages plunger 12 and causes shaft 16 to enter bushing 3 against the bias of spring 17. The actual engagement between bodies 8, 9 causes lifting of body 8 so that cam sectors 45 act upon rollers 27, 34 and levers 21, 23, thus causing rollers 28, 35 to approach the sides of the cap. Rollers 28 perform a beading of the bottom of the cap, and rollers 35 perform a screw-threading operation with annular projections 40 following the screw-threads of the container mouth. Individual adjustment of the cam sectors may be made by adjusting springs 50 via brushes 51. Further adjustment of the pressure imparted by the rollers on the cap may be made by varying the length, shape or initial position of cam sectors 45. Also, the caps may not necessarily be entirely metallic but merely incorporate metal portions, for example in plastics material.
