1333398 Vehicle washing apparatus CECCATO & C SpA 23 July 1971 [30 April 1971 22 May 1971] 34565/71 Heading B7J A vehicle washing installation comprises either a fixed frame or a mobile frame 1, Figs. 1 and 2, and at least one pair of rotating brushes 9 which are mounted at pivotal mountings 17 on an upper cross-piece 8 of the frame 1 and are inclined when in a position of rest with their lower ends closer to the vertical median longitudinal plane of the installation than their upper ends, the mountings 17 of each pair being positioned one on either side of the longitudinal vertical median plane of the installation and the brushes 9 being capable of swinging movement in a vertical plane or planes perpendicular to the median plane. The inclination at rest of the brushes 9 may be sufficient to produce a superimposition along the longitudinal vertical median plane of at least their lower end portions. Swinging of the brushes 9 may be achieved by the rolling of the brushes themselves along substantially vertical surfaces of a vehicle, or by such rolling combined with suitable driving means. The brushes 9 may be pivoted at points in the same transverse vertical plane, Fig. 2, or in different transverse vertical planes, Fig. 4. The inclination at rest of the brushes may alternatively be achieved by counterweights above the pivot points, Fig. 6 (not shown). The brushes 9 may swing longitudinally such as by crosspiece 8 being pivoted on arms 7 about axis a-a, and may spread from each other to permit the exit of a vehicle, such as by use of a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 18, Fig. 2. At least one horizontal brush 10 may also be provided, Figs. 1 and 2, or the pair of brushes may be able to swing to substantially horizontal positions, Fig. 4.
