Abstract
1,064,541. Mechanical garages. J. GLOVER & SONS Ltd., and JOHN THOMPSON INDUSTRIAL CONSTRUCTIONS Ltd., [trading as JOHN THOMPSON CONVEYOR CO].. March 25, 1965 [Jan. 13, 1964], No. 1378/64. Heading B8E. Apparatus for conveying vehicles into parking compartments, e.g. of a multi-storey garage, includes a dolly comprising a frame 11, Fig. 1, and a slide pan 12 which are movable in either of opposed directions relative to a fixed platform 13 by four cables 31 . . . 34, the frame 11 being displaced twice the distance moved by the slide pan 12. The frame 11 has ten wheels 21, Figs. 3A and 3B (not shown), for rolling on the platform 13 which forms part of the floor of a compartment and the slide pan 12 is supported on rollers 22, Figs. 7A and 7B (not shown), mounted on the frame. Two of the cables 31, 32 extend respectively round horizontally disposed sheaves 51, 52 and are anchored at their ends to fixed half sheaves 41, 42 on the platform 13 and at 61, 62 to the frame 11, and the other two cables 33, 34 extend from a drive drum 23 respectively round sheaves 43, 44 to anchorages 54, 53 on the slide pan 12. Members 24, 25, 26 of the frame 11 are centrally recessed to accommodate vehicles having relatively low ground clearance. For raising the rear wheels of the vehicles the frame 11 is provided at each side thereof with pairs of horizontally pivotable arms 115, Figs. 3B, 4 and 5 (not shown), each of which is movable by a spring-loaded hydraulic piston 101 and has a wheel-engaging sleeve 116 rotatably mounted thereon. For straightening the front wheels of the vehicles the frame 11 is provided at each side thereof with a bar 127, Fig. 3A (not shown), which is pivotally connected at one end to the frame through a link 128 and at the other end to a horizontally pivotable arm 125, the latter being movable by an hydraulic spring-loaded piston, similar to that used to move each arm 115, to produce parallel outward movement of the bar 127.
