Abstract

1333076 Guiding webs CLEVELAND GUEST (ENG) Ltd 26 Aug 1971 [29 Aug 1970] 41668/70 Heading B8R A transverse-stretching device for sheet material, e.g. a textile web, comprises two sets of slidable elongate support members 6, 7 mounted for rotation about a fixed tube 1, the members 6, 7 being caused to reciprocate towards and away from each other during rotation by the engagement of rollers 12 with a track 14 in respective wheels 13 which can be tilted relative to the tube 1, by means of a knob 18 and associated linkages 17, 19, to determine the degree of reciprocation. Rotatably mounted elements 5, disposed respectively between aligned members 6, and 7, define a central non- reciprocable support surface for the sheet material. In another embodiment the tube 1 is drivably rotated, the slidably mounted members 6, 7 being spring-urged towards the central elements 5 and deriving their reciprocating motion by co-operation with tiltable fixed plates (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown).
