Abstract

1332807 Lubricating oil; lubricant compositions SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 3 Nov 1970 52259/70 Headings C5E and C5F A lubricating oil with a V.I. below 90 comprises an aromatic extract from a deasphalted residual oil from the vaccum distillation of a paraffinic crude oil and a vacuum distillate from a paraffinic crude oil. The distillate may be a spindle-oil wax distillate and may be dewaxed before blending. The oil may also include a pour-point depressant, e.g. a condensation product of chlorinated wax and naphthalene or of phenol and chlorinated wax, a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate or a polymer of an alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate in which the alkyl chain is unbranched and contains 16 to 22 carbon atoms. Two or more distillate fractions may be used, and up to 40% of aromatic extracts of vacuum distillates may also be present. Other additives may also be used, e.g. phenolic antioxidants, detergents such as calcium petroleum sulphonates, calcium alkyl-salicylates, poly-isobutenyl-tetraethylenepentamine, reaction products of a polyamine and an alkylsuccinic anhydride in which the alkyl group has at least 50 carbon atoms, and EP additives such as zinc dialkyldithiophosphates.
