Abstract

1332704 Making electrode &c. strip; extruding MANNESMANN AG 25 Nov 1970 [27 Nov 1969] 56137/70 Headings B3A and B3P Metal, cermet &c., strip is made by compressing particulate material into a porous block, extruding the block to form a non-porous tube and forming the tube into strip. Chips of Cr-Ni steel may be used to form the block, which is welded into an iron jacket before being extruded to tubular form. The tube is slit, pickled and cold-rolled. Alternatively, it may be reduced in a pilger mill before being slit, or it may be rolled flat and edge-trimmed to form two strips. Broader strips may be obtained by welding together several strips before rolling. Before extrusion, the block may be heat-treated and subjected to a protective gas. Strip electrodes for welding may be produced.
