Abstract

1332182 Continuous winding apparatus MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 1 Oct 1970 [3 Oct 1969] 46693/70 Heading D1J The invention relates to a method of automatically replacing a full bobbin tube 20 by an empty bobbin tube 20' by means of an apparatus having a single drive drum 34, and a pair of separate tube carrying mandrels mounted on an arm 9 that is rotatable about an axis 5. The axis 5 is carried by a platform 4 sliding on rails 1, 2. As the package 21 grows in size the arm 9 is held against rotation by an arresting pin 10, Fig. 1, but is guided by rails 1, 2 so as to move in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 7, such movement being made against the resistance of a disc 33 in an oil filled cylinder 29. When the package 21 reaches a predetermined size the resultant displacement of the platform 4 along the rails 1, 2 closes a switch that retracts the pin 10 to permit the arm 9 to rotate. At the same time pneumatic pressure is applied to a cylinder 28 to cause the platform 4, and hence the axis 5, to move back towards the drive drum 34. The pressure of the full package 21 against the drive drum 34 causes the arm 9 to rotate until both the full package 21 and the empty bobbin tube 20' are jointly in engagement with the drive drum 34 as shown in Fig. 7. The rotation of the arm 9 is braked by means of an arm 14, rigid with the arm 9, rubbing against a dampening lever 15 coupled to a dampening cylinder 17. Prior to the empty tube 20' contacting the drive drum 34, a cam (25) Fig. 2 (not shown) displaces the empty tube 20' and its mandrel axially towards the viewer in Fig. 1. so as to cause the empty tube 20' to be in a position for driving engagement with a ring (37) Fig. 2 at one end of the drive drum 34. The ring (37) is of larger diameter than the remainder of the drum 34. The ring (37) causes the empty tube 20' to accelerate to a circumferential speed that exceeds the speed of take-up of the package 21 by 1 to 3 per cent. Timing relays then operate a piston rod 12 to cause a rack 7 to rotate axis 5 through a free-wheel clutch and therewith the arm 9. This causes the full package 21 to be lifted off the drive drum and the empty tube 20' to move over the face of the drive drum. Inertia keeps the full package rotating for a while. Thread severence. A rod 40 then moves the thread approaching the traversing means 36 away from the viewer in Fig. 1 until the thread engages in a notch 38 in a rod (39). The cam (25) now moves the empty tube 20' and its mandrel axially away from the viewer in Fig. 1 and causes teeth (56) on said mandrel to snag the thread and sever it on an edge 57 of the teeth. Continued axial movement of the empty tube 20' causes a few reserve wraps to be placed on the tube 20' until a normal operating position is reached. The thread is then caused to automatically leave the notch 38 and revert to the yarn traverser 36.
