Abstract

1332148 Fatigue Testing NIPPON KOKAN K K 29 Dec 1970 [27 Dec 1969] 61407/70 Heading G1S The extent to which the fatigue life of a structure 1 has been expended is determined by means of a transparent film 2 which is such that it polarizes light when stressed and which is adhered to the structure 1. The photo-elastic pattern produced by stressing of film 2 is viewed by means of a polarizing film 4. The magnitude of the pattern is related to the extent of fatigue life expenditure and the pattern may be compared to standard patterns. The film 2 may be applied directly to the structure 1 as in Fig. 1 (not shown), or indirectly via a further member Figs. 4, 6, 7 and 8, (not shown). The transparent film may be a composition consisting of 100 parts nylon and 50 parts polyamide.
