1332047 Continuous casting URALSKY ZAVOD TYAZHELOGO MASHINSTROENIA IMENI S ORDZHONIKIDZE 19 April 1971 [18 June 1970] 26878/71 Heading B3F A continuous casting plant has a curved-axis mould 1 and a secondary cooling zone with guiding means, and the strand path provided by mould and guiding means comprises successive sections which are:- a circularlyarcuate section with a radius R 0 and starting within the mould, a curved transition section with a continuously varying radius R and a straight section to the end of the guiding means where solidification is complete; the length L 1 of the first section (from the point where it is vertical to its junction with the transition section) being 0À2 to 0À4 times the total length L 0 of the mould and guiding means; the length L 2 of the second curved section being 1À3 to 1À8 times (#/ 2 - # 0 )R 0 where # 0 is the angle in radians between the horizontal and a line through the junction between the first two sections and the centre of curvature of the first section; the radius R of the second (transition) section at any point given by the equation R=ah/(L 2 -S 1 ) where a is a constant, h is the radial thickness of the liquid core 4 of the strand 3 at that point and S 1 is the distance of the point from the junction between the first two sections.
