Abstract
1331780 Coating with porous alloy layers UNION CARBIDE CORP 8 Oct 1970 [21 Sept 1970 10 Oct 1970] 47819/70 Headings C7D and C7F A Cu base member e.g. a heat exchanger tube is coated with a layer < 0À125" thick of a -30 + 500 U.S. mesh powder mixture in an merit liquid vehicle of Cu, Cu alloy or steel powder with 10-30% of Cu-7/9À5% P or Cu-25/95%Sb. The layer is preheated below 1000‹ F and then heated at 1350 - 1550‹ F to melt the bonding alloy and then immediately coated to below 1350‹ F to form a layer with inter-connected pores 0.05 - 7À5 mils. diameter. The Cu base member may be a Cu - 0À8/2À6% Fe alloy or a 90/10 or 70/30 Cu/Ni alloy. Preheating is preferably at a rate < 600‹ F and the final heating is at a faster rate. Both heating steps are conducted in a non oxidising atmosphere e.g. N 2 or H 2 .
