Abstract

1331721 Cooling rotary furnaces; Perkins tubes HOLDERBANK MANAGEMENT & CONSULTING Ltd 19 April 1971 [4 Feb 1970] 20933/71 Headings F4B and F4U Equipment for cooling the outlet of a rotary kiln comprises a series of Perkins tubes 12 disposed uniformly around the periphery of and in thermally conductive manner with the kiln shell 1, the ends 19 of said tubes engaging a metal ring 17. The tubes 12 are welded at 15 to the shell and may have ribs 16 or spikes or strips at their free ends. They may slope away from the shell as shown on a 1¢ % gradient or may be parallel thereto. The ring 17 may be divided into segments (18, Figs. 4 and 6), one segment for tube 12. In a modification, Fig. 7, an annular plenum chamber 25 supplied with air by a fan 24, has an annular nozzle 26 directing air on to the cooler parts of said tubes 12 and is spaced from the kiln shell by sealing ribs 28. The portion of the shell welded to the tubes may be drilled from the kiln end with cavities (20, Fig. 5) packed with ceramic material (21). (For Figures see next page.)
