Abstract

1331656 Mobile luffing arm apparatus SIMON ENG DUDLEY Ltd 1 May 1972 [1 May 1971] 12576/71 Heading B8H In a hydraulically operated platform elevator comprising upper and lower booms 15, 11 pivotally mounted together at adjacent ends and having pivotally secured at respective other ends a platform 16 and a turntable 12, and levelling rods 17, 18 similarly secured to the turntable and the platform and pivotally mounted at their adjacent ends to a bracket 19 whereby to maintain the altitude of the platform constant at all elevations of the boom, a stop member 22 is associated with the bracket 19 to limit the angular disposition of the upper boom relative to the lower boom. The stop member 22 engages the lower levelling rod 17 at its lower end and at its upper end has a pad 23 engageable by an actuator rod 24 as the upper boom is raised relative to the lower boom. The rod 24 controls a valve (not shown) in the circuit of a hydraulic ram 21, which raises said upper boom, whereby when the upper boom has been raised by a predetermined amount, that is, when the rod 24 abuts the pad 23, the supply of fluid to the ram 21 is stopped. The stop member 22 is slidably mounted on the bracket 19 whereby when the lower boom is raised, by an hydraulic ram 20, and the levelling rod 17 pivots downwardly relative to the bracket 19, the stop member slides downwardly away from the control rod 24 thereby permitting the upper boom to be raised again. The control rod 24 may be part of the manual controls provided on the platform.
