Abstract

1331521 Organolithium compounds DENKI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 20 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 10234/71 Heading C2J [Also in Division C3] Non-condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons containing at least one direct benzenephenyl linkage are reacted with lithium metal and then with a conjugated diene to form an oligomeric dianion, in a cyclic ether or aliphatic polyether as diluent. In examples, diphenyl or o-terphenyl are reacted with lithium in ethylene glycol dimethyl ether or tetrahydrofuran, in one case including minor amounts of styrene and sec-butyl lithium also, and the products contacted with butadiene or isoprene. The polar diluent is then replaced by a non-polar diluent, e.g. benzene, to form a suitable solution for block copolymerization.
