Abstract
A process for the production of high impact resistance polystyrene by radical polymerization of a solution obtained by dissolving from 2 to 20% by weight of butadiene-styrene copolymer in 98 to 80% by weight of styrene, said butadiene copolymer having been obtained- styrene by solution polymerization using as catalyst an organolithium compound, and containing more than 10 to 30% by weight of styrene, characterized by using butadiene-styrene copolymer containing in the at least one block (A) and at least one block (B), said block (A) comprising a random butadiene-styrene copolymer having a substantially high styrene content, and said block (B) comprising a random butadiene-styrene copolymer having a substantially styrene content low, the difference in the styrene contents of block (A) and block (B) being 0.5 or more times the average styrene content of the butadi copolymer ene-styrene, and the block styrene content of block (a) being 50% by weight or less of the styrene content of block (a), and the block styrene content of block (B) being 30 % by weight or less of the styrene content in block (B).
