Abstract

1303689 Alkali metal hydrocarbyl polymerization catalyst FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO 19 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 40020/70 Heading C3P Conjugated dienes are polymerized in the presence of (a) a lithium allyl compound (including substituted allyl) and (b) a sodium hydrocarbyl oxide. In examples, butadiene, isoprene, chloroprene, piperylene, 2-phenyl-1,3-butadiene, butadiene-styrene, -vinyl toluene, -butene-1, and -isoprene, and isoprene-hexene-1 polymer are obtained by polymerization in the presence of (a) lithium allyl, 3-lithium-butene-1, -pentene- 1, -3,3-dimethyl propene-1, -3 or -4-ethylhexene-1, or -3-phenyl-butene-1, and (b) sodium t-butoxide, -t-amyloxide, -sec.-butoxide, -cumyloxide, -n-hexyloxide, or -phenoxide.
