Abstract

1292915 Diene polymerization catalystcontaining alkali metal hydrocarbyls FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO 19 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 40017/70 Heading C3P Conjugated dienes are polymerized in the presence of (a) a sodium "allyl" (including substituted allyl), (b) a sodium hydrocarbyloxide and (c) a potassium tertiary alkoxide, and optionally a sodium halide. The catalyst may thus be a modified Alfin catalyst. In examples, butadiene, isoprene, chloroprene, piperylene, 2 - phenyl - 1,3 - butadiene, butadiene - styrene, -vinyl toluene, -n-butene-1, -isoprene and isoprene-hexene-1 polymers are obtained using (a) sodium allyl, methyallyl-, dimethallyl-, ethylallyl-, or amylallyl, (b) sodium-isopropoxide, -secbutoxide, -n-pentoxide, -sec-hexoxide or -phenoxide, and (c) potassium-1-butoxide, -1,1,4 - trimethylpentyloxide, -1-methyl- 1,4-diethylpentyloxide, -cumyloxide or -1- methyl-1-phenyl-propyloxide.
