Abstract

133,090. Officine di Villar Perosa. March 10, 1917, [Convention date]. Addition to 16362/15. Machine guns. - Consists in providing automatic guns having the breech action described in the parent Specification with a hand slide in the form of a sleeve sliding on the breech - body and adapted to cover the guide slot for the locking-lug. In the construction shown, the hand slide comprises a sleeve 64, surrounding the breech-body and connected to an inner ring 63 which engages in front of a projection 61 on the locking-lug 10 of the breech-block. The ring 63 is formed with a cam surface 62, as shown in Fig. 4, to facilitate the turning movement of the breech-block when the sleeve 64 is drawn back. A spring 66 tends to keep the sleeve 64 in the forward position where it closes the slot 12, 13 in the breech-body. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also (a) a sleeve carrying the magazine fastening and adapted to be rotated to close the loading and ejection openings when the magazine is removed, (b) a detachable stock, (c) two triggers, one for single-shot firing and the other for continuous firing, (d) a backsight, and (e) a guard for protecting the hand from the heat of the barrel. In the construction shown, the magazine 20 is secured by a catch 71 to a sleeve 19 surrounding the breech-body and adapted to be rotated, when the magazine is removed, to close the loading and ejection openings in the breech-body. The stock 78 fits into a socket in the breech-body and is secured by a vertical spring bolt 82, Fig. 2. The arms 57, 58, Fig. 8 (Cancelled), of the two triggers 53, 54 both bear on the sear 51 and are of different lengths, the shorter one being adapted to slip off the sear for single-shot firing and the other to keep the sear depressed for continuous firing. The end of the shorter arm 57 is provided with a spring tooth to enable it to re-engage. The backsight 85, Fig. 6 (Cancelled) is carried by a ring in front of the sleeve 19 and is formed with two sighting-notches 87, 88. A perforated jacket 89, Fig. 1, on the barrel protects the hand from the heat of the barrel and facilitates cooling. This subject matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
