1330637 Non-stick coatings BRITISH GAS CORP 6 Oct 1970 [8 Oct 1969] 49417/69 Heading B2E An article is provided with a surface coating by providing a substrate on the surface of the aricle and applying a coating of a material having a low coefficient of friction, a low surface energy and a high contact angle to said substrate, the substrate being formed by applying particles of hard abrasive material to adhesive on a surface of the article and bonding the particles to the surface with the adhesive material. The abrasive particles may be carborundum or corundum. Suitable adhesives are polyimides, polybenzimidazoles and phenolic resins or mixtures of these. The article may be a sheet and the sheet after having a substrate formed thereon may be applied to a further article of irregular shape. The base sheet may be a metallic foil or a plastics film. The article may be a cooking utensil, a flue pipe or an internal liner for cookers or ovens. The non-stick coatings may be of polytetrafluoroethylene, fluorinated ethylene propylene or silicones.
