After inserting the member 78 in the holes, the coils of the member may be flattened in a direction normal to the plane of the edges at the join. The joint may be a butt joint, Fig. 1, or a lap joint, Fig. 3. In the latter case two rows of holes 84, 86 are provided in each edge. In a modification (n.s.) of Fig. 3, only one edge has two rows of holes whereas the other edge has a single row. The endless belt may be a conveyer band for use in a battery cage system to catch birds' droppings.
