Abstract

1330358 Selective printing ING C OLIVETTI & C SpA 19 April 1971 [25 March 1970] 24866/71 Heading B6F A type element is positioned for character selection by means of a plurality of cams such as 61, 63, 66, 68, Fig. I, mounted on respective shafts 71, 178, 204, 224, at least one of the cams being operative to move an adjacent cam and its shaft. As shown, cams 68, 66 and 63 are all operative to move adjacent cams through rollers such as 219, 204, 199, 173, 171 to perform aggregate motion of a roller 59. Each cam 61, 63, 66, 68 has a complementary cam 62, 64, 67, 69 respectively, acting in aggregate motion on a roller 60 to attain positive pivotal movement of a lever 58 which acts through a gear segment 51 to rotate a barrel-shaped type head 26 about a horizontal axis 28. A similar set of cams (Fig. 5, not shown) act through a gear segment 242 to rotate the type head 26 about a vertical axis 31. The cams 61-64, 66-69 are rotated by corresponding gear segments such as 189, 229 according to an input code, the displacements by the pairs of cams being 8, 4, 2 and 1 units from left to right. The input code, whether keyboard or electromagnetically derived, positions bails 101, Fig. 9 and thereby, through slides 98, levers 94 each of which when moved is positioned in the path of a lug 127 or 131 whereby a corresponding lever 93, such as 93-2 or 93-4, Fig. 1, is moved to or from a cushioned stop 311 or 312, to rotate the connected segment such as 229 or 189 to its alternative position. The lugs 127, 131 are driven by a lever 154 from a cam 164 on a main shaft 123, which also drives a holding lug 107 for the slides 98 through a cam 121.
