Abstract

785,841. Typewriters. OLYMPIA WERKE AKT.-GES. Feb. 7, 1955, No. 3564/55. Class 100(4) A differential escapement mechanism for typewriters is operated by type-levers 41 engaging one. of four universal bars 34a (or 34b in case shift position) which are notched at 40 and at the other end 35 so that one of four levers 28 is operated. The operated lever 28, Fig. 6, which relates to the letter-spacing required, engages its tappets 31, to displace a ball 17 in an escapement drum 5 and operate an actuating pin 19 which has been previously displaced to withdraw into the drum 5 and thereby disengages it from a resilient stop 7. The drum 5, which is rotatable in one direction only, rotates until the newly displaced pin 19 engages the stop 7 and, by gearing 6, 12, 13 and rack 14, an appropriate movement of the typewriter carriage takes place. During a carriage return movement, pinion 6 is moved axially on shaft 4 by a control device 26 to disconnect a toothed clutch 21, between the pinion 6 and the drum 5.
