Abstract
1330355 Machine tool controls SIEMENS AG 22 Sept 1970 [23 Sept 1969] 45176/70 Addition to 1216000 as improved upon or modified by 1242760 Heading B3B [Also in Division G3] In a lathe the tool traverse and/or depth of cut is reduced for so long as the spindle torque which is dependent on the cutting performance exceeds an upper threshold, and in-feed up to a maximum of the programmed profile is carried out as long as the torque exceeds a lower threshold, and the input of the programme into the control is repeated until the actual contour of the workpiece corresponds with the programmed contour; the feed rate in one direction of workpiece or tool motion being dependent upon the cutting performance which is calculated from the spindle speed and torque, and at least one feed perpendicular to the above feed rate is dependent upon the first mentioned feed rate and/or upon the differential co-efficient of the calculated cutting performance. In an example, the tool moves up to the workpiece with a fast traverse V s in the Z direction, Fig. 1, and at time t, the tool contacts the work. A switch from fast traverse to cutting feed rate V zp takes place at time tz, when the minimum threshold P min in the cutting performance P z is exceeded. The tool penetrates further into the work until at time t 3 the normal cutting performance z max is exceeded. The traverse rate V z is slowed down and if this undershoots V min as at time t 4 , the in-feed V x in the X direction is initiated so as to reduce the depth of cut and P x max is not exceeded. The maximum traverse is limited by the programmed feed rate V zp . A block diagram, Fig. 3, shows a circuit for implementing the machining sequence of Fig. 1. The cutting rate is adapted to remain constant by regulating the spindle speed. A block circuit diagram, Fig. 4 (not shown), illustrates this arrangement. The in-feed may be controlled as a function of a signal which is proportional to the differential co-efficient of the cutting performance. A block diagram, Fig. 5 (not shown), illustrates this arrangement. Switching from fast traverse to cutting traverse takes place immediately, whilst switching from cutting traverse to fast retraction takes place with a delay so as to cater for irregularities in the stock.
