Abstract

1330354 Machine tool controls SIEMENS AG 22 Sept 1970 [23 Sept 1969] 45174/70 Addition to 1216000 as improved upon or modified by 1242760 Heading B3B [Also in Division G3] In a lathe, the tool is moved up to the work at a fast rate, and when the spindle torque exceeds a lower threshold the tool moves at the cutting rate, the cutting traverse, and/or the in-feed of the tool, is reduced until the torque exceeds an upper threshold, the in-feed takes place up to a maximum of the programmed contour so long as the machining performance exceeds a lower threshold, and the time for which a signal proportional to the thrust in the longitudinal direction between the workpiece and the tool exceeds an adjustable limiting value is measured, and after a predetermined time interval for this exceeding condition, a command is issued as a fault indication, and/or the lathe is switched off. A lathe 1 has a workpiece 3 to be machined by a tool 4. The lathe is controlled by a numerical control system 2 using the tool spindle torque as a parameter. A tool mounting 5 can be moved in the X and Z directions, and a pressure-sensitive semi-conductor 6 produces a signal proportional to the thrust along the Z axis between the tool and work. This signal is passed through an amplifier 7 to the input of a limit signalling device 8. If the thrust signal exceeds a predetermined adjustable value the device 8 responds, and a signal from device 8 is fed into an integrating element 9 which is a capacitor. If the charge in element 9 has reached a specific level, a command to switch off the machine is supplied to control system 2. At the same time an optical indication of the fault is arranged at 10.
