Abstract

1330349 Manhole covers PONT-A-MOUSSON SA 1 Dec 1970 [10 Dec 1969] 57228/70 Heading E1G A manhole or inspection cover 2 is hinged in a frame 1 by a pair of integrally-cast hinge pin formations 12-13-14, Fig. 5, on the cover which seat in and engage under integrally-cast socket formations 8-10 on the frame 1, the upper wall of the sockets having gaps 9, 9a whereby the hinge parts can be axially disengaged when the cover is fully open, to allow removal, while the frame has a retaining flange 5 whereby the hinge parts cannot be axially disengaged when the cover is closed. Disengagement may be permanently prevented, Fig. 2 (not shown), by a welded-on or adhered block (16). In the closed position a cover flange 15 seats on a frame web 6 to relieve loading on the hinge. The frame opening may be circular, triangular, square, rectangular or oval.
