1329681 Fraction collectors W E GILSON 5 Jan 1971 [7 Jan 1970] 478/71 Heading B1X A fraction collector comprises a support 12 which includes a table 14 for supporting an array of fraction-receiving containers (16), Fig. 1 (not shown), a filling head 18 for discharging fractions into the containers, a frame 20 mounted for tilting movement about a horizontal axis formed by shafts 52 and located beneath the table, the frame including bars 54 along which a member 122 which mounts the filling head is slidable, and drive means to tilt the frame 20 and to slide member 122 along the bars 54 in order to sequentially fill the containers. The frame 20 is tilted by a rotatable cam 64, and filling head 18 is slid along bars 54 by a chain 112 connected to a slider 24, itself driven by a chain 90 which passes round the driven member of a slipping clutch 82. Movement of the slider 24 along bars 78 is controlled by the abutment of a pin 80 thereon sequentially with the flanges of a series of plates (76), Fig. 6 (not shown), arranged transversely to the direction of movement of the slider 24 with alternate ones displaced in that transverse direction. Thus, as a result of the titling movement of the frame 20, the pin 80 of the slider 24 escapes round the ends of the flanges one by one so that the slider 24 (and correspondingly, the filling head 18) is caused to follow a zig-zag path.
