Abstract

1329648 Transferring articles between endless conveyer belts; stacking articles EASTMAN KODAK CO 27 May 1971 [28 May 1970] 17616/71 Headings B8A and B8C Articles 12 of uniform size and each having a flange portion 11, are transferred from random spacing on a conveyer belt 14 to a shingled arrangement on a lower belt 15. As the leading article 12 topples from the belt 14 to the belt 15 it activates a light gate 18, 19. This causes extension of a stop 16 which at first supports the flange 11 of the article and subsequently engages the body of the article to hold it from further movement (Fig. 2, not shown). When the next succeeding article topples off the conveyer 14, the action of the gate 18, 19, results in extension of a second stop 16, and at the same time retraction of the first stop (Fig. 3). Further movement of the conveyer 15 brings the body of the leading article up against the second stop, and the second article then moves into close shingled abutment with the leading article. Further articles are joined to the group in this way, as further stops 16 are extended and retracted. When the last stop is retracted, no further stops are extended until when a further article is transferred, the first stop is again extended. The stops are successively extended and retracted by the action of a stepping switch (Fig. 5, not shown) connected to the output of the gate 18, 19.
