Abstract

1329501 Silage and fodder cutters SOC STEPHANOISE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES 25 May 1971 [26 May 1970] 16885/71 Heading A4C A device for removing fodder or silage from a silo, particularly a rectangular silo, comprises a rotary drive shaft 30 on which are mounted a cutting tool and a shredding member, the shaft being mounted on a movable frame (12) Fig.1 (not shown) the shredder being set-back relative to the cutting tool so that the latter engages the fodder or silage first. The cutter may comprise a disc with a preferably toothed cutting edge 33, the shredder being a cylindrical drum 31 having spikes 34 and having a shield 36 above it. The shaft 30 is driven by, for example, a hydraulic drive unit 29 on a support 28 movable vertically relative to the frame (12). The frame (12) is movable transverse to the silo length on a frame (8) which has rollers (11) engaged in V-shaped bars allowing movement of the frame (8) lengthwise of the silo. In a second embodiment, Fig.3 (not shown), a disc cutter has a plain face (32a) which is inclined slightly to the cut edge (25a) of the fodder, the shredder comprising a substantially helical guide (48) fixed to the drum 31 and having cutting teeth (49). In a third embodiment, Figs.4, 5 (not shown) a cylindrical sleeve (37) with one end edge formed as a cutting edge with cutting teeth (42) rotates about a vertical axis, radial arms (38) connecting the inner surface of sleeve (37) to a hab (39) on the drive shaft 30. The arms (38) are provided with straight cutting edges (40) and spikes (41) to act as a shredder.
