Abstract
1329408 Hardness testing MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K K 16 March 1972 [27 March 1971 (3)] 12442/72 Headings G1N and G1S Articles made of a metallic material of hardness less than a predetermined amount are detected by subjecting each article to a predetermined load and detecting any permanent deformation of the article caused by the applied load. As shown, metallic plates 2 are conveyed by a conveyor D, Fig.6, along a channel 1' in a base member 1, past a pressing device 3 and a deformation detector 4. The device 3, Fig. 3 (not shown), applies, by means of a roller a predetermined load along the centre line of the plates as they pass thereby. The detector includes a device 24 which applies a downward force on the conveyor D and hence the plate 2 to one side of its centre line. Any permanently deformed plate has a portion raised thereby (as seen in dotted lines in Fig.6). This deformation is detected by a pair of coils 29, 30 arranged in a bridge circuit, Fig.7. The output of the bridge is applied to a threshold detector 34 whose output is applied to an AND gate 35 together with the output of a position detector 23.
