Abstract

1329360 Emergency stop gear LIBBEYOWENS-FORD CO 28 Sept 1971 45070/71 Heading F1K [Also in Division B7] In an automobile a frangible strip 17 of conducting material adhered to a glazed panel 10 of the vehicle is included in the ignition circuit so that in the event of the panel 10 breaking the strip 17 breaks to interrupt the ignition circuit and thereby stop the engine. Battery 22, strip 17, ignition switch 24 and engine 25 are connected in series. A switch 30 connected in shunt with strip 17 is manually operable to reconnect the circuit when the strip is broken. A glass/plastics laminated windshield 10 has strip 17 located between the bonded layers. The strip is made of finely divided silver (35 to 75%) and glass frit (10 to 50%) with an organic binder (15%) is applied by printing, painting or by a silk screen method and is subsequently fired during the heating necessary for producing bent laminated windshields.
