Abstract

1310807 Windscreens SAINT-GOBAIN 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24876/71 Heading B7J [Also in Divisions H4 and H5] A transparent panel of composite safety glass, such as a vehicle window, is provided with at least one aerial conductor, which is arranged on one of the exposed surfaces of said panel. As described, two separate glass sheets 2, 3, Fig. 2, are bonded together by means of an intermediate layer 4 of, for example, polyvinylbutyral. Aerial conductors are applied to the exposed surface of the glass sheet 2, and normally face the interior of the vehicle. They comprise a central vertical conductor 6, and an upper horizontal conductor (5), Fig. 1 (not shown), forming a tee. The width of the conductor 6 may be less than 0À4 mm., so as not to obstruct vision, and both conductors may be made of silver. A paste is applied by the silkscreen process, and is fired during bending of the glass sheet, at a temperature of some 600‹ C. The vertical conductor 6 is spread out at its lower end to form a surface on which a contact pin 9 is attached by welding. A cable leading to a receiver within the vehicle is terminated by a clip, which is attachable to the pin 9. Resistance wires may be arranged within the intermediate layer 4, for electrically heating the panel. In an alternative arrangement, one of the outer sheets of a composite panel is made of plastics material, and the aerial conductor or conductors are arranged on the exposed surface thereof. The panel would be fitted in a vehicle so as to face towards its interior.
