Abstract

1329140 Catalyst composition ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 21 Sept 1971 [13 Nov 1970] 54162/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A heterogeneous isomerisation catalyst comprises the reaction product of a supported transition metal compound and an organoaluminium compound AlR 3 or Al(OR)R 2 (where R is a C 1 -C 20 hydrocarbyl) which has been activated either by carrying out the reaction in the presence of an olefin (e.g. starting material) or a compound R 3 X or (RO) 3 X where X is P, As or Sb. In the Examples the catalyst is the reaction product of cobalt (II) acetylacetonate or SiO 2 or Al 2 O 3 and aluminium triisobutyl in the presence of butene-1, optionally activated by BF 3 , BF 3 .OEt 2 and Ph 3 P.
