1329124 Destroying containers H WARNECKE [trading as TUWA-PLASTIK DR HERBERT WARNECKE ERZEUGUNG VON KUNSTSTOFFARTIKELN] 1 Dec 1970 [4 Dec 1969 29 June 1970] 56928/70 Heading F4W Used thin-walled thermoplastic containers 2, e.g. empty oil cans, are shrunk by being heated to a temperature between the softening and melting temperatures of the material of which they are made, which temperature is below the evaporation temperature of their former contents. One or more of the containers may be heated on a wire grate 20 in chamber 1 by recirculated hot air from blower 19 which passes over a temperature and time controlled electric heating coil 9, the container being inserted through opening 15 and removed through opening 15 or outlet 21. An annular air distributor 14 ensures turbulent air flow over the container surfaces. Alternatively (Fig. 1, not shown) the container may be heated inside a temperature-controlled tubular electric heater, being put in at the top and resting on spring claws or grate rods (3) until it is sufficiently reduced in size to fall off the claws or grate rods. Alternatively a gas-fired chamber may be used.
