1328855 Egg cartons DOW CHEMICAL CO 3 Nov 1970 [3 Nov 1969] 52262/70 Heading B8P An egg carton of a resilient foam plastics material which may be polystyrene has a lid locking flap 16 that engages the outside of a closed hinged lid. Ears 34, 36 on the edges of the flap 16 engage pockets 52, 54 to retain the lid closed, there being a notch 62 on the lid engaged by a recess 44 on the flap permitting a finger to enter between the front wall of the lid and the flap whereby the flap can be pulled away when the carton is to be opened. The base and lid are each provided with rosette-like pads 68, 64 of super-expanded material to cushion the eggs and to hold eggs of various sizes. Engaging formations 20, 24 on the lid and body ensure that the lid and body are correctly aligned.
