1328723 Tool for tightening or loosening a threaded member J A H HOLMES 11 May 1972 [14 May 1971] 14990/71 Heading B3N A tool for tightening or loosening a threaded member comprises a mounting member 1 which can be attached to a fixture and a gripping means 8 which grips a threaded member when said member is forced inwardly of the tool. In Fig. 1 movable part 8 consists of clamping elements 10 separated by slots 11, each element 10 having a projection 13 against which, for example, a bottle cap can abut. Part 8 is rotatably fixed by a rod 17. Inward movement of a cap causes the frusto-conical surfaces to coact and force the clamping elements to clamp the cap. The embodiment of Fig. 3 is a simplified construction wherein part 8 has abutments 13, or a cap may engage the inner conical surface of the part. Differences in the shape of the conical surfaces gives the necessary inward loading. Fig. 5 illustrates an embodiment wherein mounting member 1 is lined with a thick moulding 25 of elastomeric material which is preferably adhered to the mounting.
