Abstract
1328594 Radio signalling SIEMENS AG 30 July 1971 [7 Aug 1970] 35954/71 Heading H4L In a communication system, in which a plurality of different transmission frequencies are available, a calling station transmits a test signal comprising one or more binary data characters, successively on a fixed sequence of said transmission frequencies and a called station successively receives and demodulates each test-signal and on the basis of the demodulated binary data determines the quality provided by the corresponding transmission frequency by measuring the distortion and/or the error frequency of each test signal received, and after said determination has been carried out for the complete sequence of transmission frequencies the transmission frequency providing the best quality is used for subsequent transmission from the calling to the called station. The distortion is determined by the period between the actual time of a polarity change and the expected or theoretical time. The bit, character or block error frequency may be used to detect the error frequency. The system may be combined with diversity reception. The system is synchronized in the manner disclosed in Specification 1,328,595.
