Abstract

1328405 Manifold imaging XEROX CORP 27 Oct 1970 [31 Oct 1969] 51015/70 Heading G2H Before the image-wise fracture of a cohesively weak photo-sensitive layer between a donor and a receiver, a transparent donor web 15 and a receiver web 16 are compressed together between a transparent backing electrode 12 and an elastic flexible tape electrode 13 unwound from a compression reel 14 as it is rolled along the surface of the receiver web (from left to right as shown). Donor web 15 is drawn from a supply reel 25 past a moistening device 21 and over the surface of the backing electrode 12 by a takeup spool 23 while the receiver web 16 is drawn from a supply reel 24 by a pair of driven rolls 26-27 having over-ride clutches and guided past cutters 37-38 and a capstan roll 36 to the nip between compression reel 14 and the donor web 15 by a tray 29 having resilient biasing means. After image-wise exposure, compression reel 14 is rolled back and driven rolls 26-27 operated in the reverse direction to separate receiver web 16 from donor web 15. The image-bearing portion of receiver web 16 is then cut off and falls onto tray 29 while the image-bearing portion of donor web 15 is separated from the backing electrode by suitable means and wound on reel 23.
