Abstract
1328372 Water heating apparatus for swimming pools L VARDEY 28 May 1971 [10 July 1970] 33671/70 Heading A4N Apparatus for heating water in swimming pools is in the form of a mat 5 through which water from the pool circulates along a long flow path so that it may be warmed by solar radiation before being returned to the pool. In the embodiment shown, the mat 5 consists of a continuous length of tubing. The tubing may be shaped with a corrugated non-slip upper surface (8), Fig. 4 (not shown), and with external complementary parts, such as a ridge (6) and a recess (7) on opposite sides, so that adjacent turns of the tubing may be interlocked. The tubing is preferably of flexible synthetic plastics material and may surround the pool rim. The mat may alternatively be formed from two sheets of synthetic plastics material welded together, Fig. 5 (not shown) having ribs (9) on one or both inner surfaces which define a tortuous flow path. When ribs (9) are provided on both inner surfaces, they are arranged to interleave parallel to each other. The flow path may be made more tortuous by parallel cross ribs (12), Fig. 6 (not shown). The mats may be substantially rectangular with an inlet (10) and an outlet (11) at diagonally opposite corners. Several mats may be connected in series, Fig. 7 (not shown) to increase the heating effect. It is stated that the apparatus may be used to heat enclosed spaces by passing heated water through the mat.
