Abstract

1328361 Organopolysiloxane compositions GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 14 Oct 1970 [23 Oct 1969] 48754/70 Heading C3T [Also in Division C5] An organopolysiloxane composition comprises (1) 100 p.b.w. of a fluid or resinous organopolysiloxane of the formula RnSiO (4-n)/2 , where R is a monovalent hydrocarbon, halogenated hydrocarbon or a cyanoalkyl radical; wherein when said organopolysiloxane is resinous, n is 1À2-1À8, and when it is fluid n is 1À95-2À005; (2) 5-200 p.b.w. of finely divided calcium carbonate; and (3) an additive for changing the viscosity from a low to a high value, comprising in amounts based on 100 p.b.w. of the organopolysiloxane of 0À005-100 p.b.w. of water, or 0À25-150 p.b.w. of a humectant, or a mixture of water and a humeotant containing 1-9 p.b.w. humectant per p.b.w. of water. On removal of additive (3) the compositions revert to the low viscosity mass. Suitable humectants are polyfunctional compounds capable of hydrogen bonding such as polyacids, polymercaptans, polyamines, amino-acids and hydroxy acids, and preferably a polyhydric alcohol such as glycerol. Uses.-The thickened non-flowing composition can be used as a grease, or 0À1 to 0À5% of the organopolysiloxane-CaCO 3 composition can be blended with a mineral spirit alkyd paint or a polyester paint.
