Abstract

1327659 Moulding rings on to pipes WEATHERHEAD CO 27 Sept 1971 44972/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] In making a flexible hose 11 having means for protecting the external surface thereof, the hose surface is longitudinally serrated and bumper rings 25, formed of a more abrasive material than the hose, are moulded in situ on the hose with or without the application of an adhesive. A length of the hose is placed in an injection moulding split die which has a plurality of chambers extending circumferentially around the hose and the chambers are filled with liquid plastic material at a temperature of 350‹ F. and the plastic material is allowed to harden. The material of the bumpers (e.g. polypropylene) may be such that it shrinks on cooling or curing so as to grip the hose so that the latter is compressively stressed radially.
