Abstract

1327083 Preparing α-metal-free phthalocyanines XEROX CORP 28 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 36515/70 Heading C4P Hexagonal crystals of α-metal-free phthalocyanines having a crystal size of 1 to 75 microns are prepared by mixing α- and/or #-metal free phthalocyanine with a basic alcoholic solvent and allowing crystal growth to take place. The mixture may be raised to the reflux temperature of the solvent which is preferably ethanol, propanol or butanol basified by sodium ethoxide or propoxide, potassium propoxide or lithium butoxide. The starting phthalocyanine is preferably sub-micron in size. The products are used in electrophoretic imaging and manifold imaging processes.
