Abstract

1,240,412. Preparation of azo pigments. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 29 May, 1969 [30 May, 1968], No. 27219/69. Heading C4P. A process for the production of metal-free azo pigments, free of S0 3 H groups, by diazotizing and coupling in organic solvents wherein the diazotization is carried out without isolation of the diazo compound and the coupling is performed in heterogeneous phase, the diazo and/or coupling components being present in suspension in organic solvents containing not more than 10% H a O. The pigments obtained may be conditioned by heating in the organic solvent medium. If the products contain free COOH groups, they may be further reacted without isolation in the solvent medium to form acid chloride groups which are then reacted with amines or alcohols to give amides and esters. The preparation of mono- and disazo dyes is described.
