Abstract

1391967 Mono- and dis-azo pigments CIBAGEIGY AG 15 June 1972 [16 June 1971] 28046/72 Heading C4P [Also in Division C3] New mono- and dis-azo pigments, free from water-solubilizing groups, of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is an aryl radical, R 2 is a naphthalene radical linked in the 1,2,3-positions to -N=N-, -OH and -CONH-, R 3 is an at least bicyclic aromatic radical which may contain an azo group and R 4 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical are prepared by (a) condensing a halide of an appropriate 1-azo-2- hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid with an appropriate amine or (b) coupling a diazo or diazoamino derivative of R 1 -NH 2 with an appropriate naphthol. The pigments are used to colour synthetic polymers, in particular polyvinyl chloride (see Division C3), in orange, red and brown shades.
